Samui's wellness capital — a long, bright beach with a calmer, more European vibe than Chaweng.
The Character
Lamai is the wellness and long-stay hub: detox retreats, Muay Thai gyms, cold-press cafes, and a slightly older, returning crowd. More European-led than Chaweng, with boutique hotels instead of mega-resorts.
The Beach
A wide, 4 km gold-sand beach with a central rocky outcrop. Great morning swim, good surf by Samui standards in the shoulder months.

Practical Guide
The bay faces east. Swimming is best November–April; July–August can have lively surf for the south end. the south-end of Lamai catches monsoon swell more directly than Bo Phut or Maenam.
Seasonality. Peak demand runs January–March for couples and wellness travellers. The slowest period is typically October — second-wettest month for Lamai — owners who price dynamically lift average occupancy materially through this window (we wrote about this in how dynamic pricing actually works on Samui).
Drive times. Samui Airport: 30 minutes. Chaweng: 15 minutes. Lamai: 0 — you are here.
Day-to-day amenities. Nearest large supermarket: Tesco Lotus Lamai (in town). Nearest A&E hospital: Bangkok Hospital Samui (25 min) or Thai International (20 min). Nearest international school: Lamai International School (5 min).
For owners. Lamai attracts wellness, retreats, longer-stay couples — the calmer alternative to Chaweng. Plot availability is lower than Chaweng/Bo Phut — hillside lots with sea views still available, especially around Hua Thanon and the south headland.
