Things To Do on Koh Samui with Kids

What actually works with children — sorted by age, and with rainy-day backups. We've taken our guests' kids to most of these and learned which ones survive a hot afternoon.

Samui isn't theme-park island. There aren't 40 things to do — there are about 15 that genuinely work with children, and a couple of dozen overpriced traps. This page covers what we recommend.

Animals (ethical)

Samui Elephant Sanctuary

Ages 3+

Walks alongside elephants, no riding, no tricks. Book early. About 2,500–3,500 THB per adult, kids 1/2 price; check current rates on the sanctuary site.

Water

Coco Splash Waterpark

Ages 2-10

Small but well-kept waterpark in Lamai. Best for younger kids — older children may find it small.

Aquapark Samui

Ages 5+

Inflatable obstacle course on the lake at Choeng Mon. Older kids love it; strict life-jacket policy.

Outdoor / Adventure

Magic Garden / Secret Buddha Garden

Ages 6+

Hilltop garden of stone statues. Drive there in a 4x4. Pack water. Best in cooler months.

Na Muang Waterfall 1

Ages 4+

Easy 5-minute walk from the car park. Shallow pool, OK for paddling. Avoid right after heavy rain.

Hin Lad Waterfall

Ages 6+

30-minute jungle walk. Better for older kids. Watch the algae-covered rocks.

Family Evenings

Fisherman's Village Friday Walking Street

Ages All

Every Friday evening Bophut closes off the old village for a food and craft market. Great low-key first night.

Beach

Chaweng / Choeng Mon beach

Ages All

Long, shallow, sandy. Choeng Mon is calmer; Chaweng has more facilities.

Lipa Noi beach

Ages All

Our pick for very young children — west coast, calm sea, sunset on the water.

Rainy Day Backup

Mini-golf at Crystal Beach

Ages 5+

Covered mini-golf, decent café. Perfect for an unplanned downpour.

Animals

Samui Aquarium & Tiger Zoo

Ages 4+

We list this for completeness — the aquarium is OK but we don't recommend the tiger zoo. Ethics aside, it isn't a great experience.
