Laem Set is where east-coast villa owners go when they've outgrown the crowds. The Centara Villas and Kamalaya wellness resort anchor the area, but the cape itself is overwhelmingly private villas on large plots — walled gardens, mature coconut stands, and stone jetties built into the reef. The cape's seclusion has kept land supply tight for two decades.

The Beach

A long, shallow reef-protected coast with pockets of perfect sand between natural rock groins. Snorkelling straight off the beach. Water that stays glassy even when Chaweng is choppy.

Practical Guide

The cape faces south-east. Laem Set is the rocky cape on Samui's south coast between Hua Thanon and Ban Hua Thanon — quiet, end-of-road, with a small rocky-and-sand beach that stays beautifully calm year-round because the cape blocks both monsoons. The water is some of the clearest on the island for swimming, especially around the Centara Villas headland.

Seasonality. Laem Set is the most all-season swimmable beach on Samui — sheltered by the cape from northeast wet-season swell and sheltered by the south-coast geography from southwest summer wind. Peak villa demand still runs December–February but the shoulder season is much milder here than on the east or west coasts.

Drive times. Hua Thanon 5 minutes. Lamai 10 minutes north. Chaweng 25 minutes. Samui Airport 35 minutes. Thong Krut pier (longtail boats to Koh Tan and Koh Mudsum) 8 minutes — Laem Set is the natural launchpad for a day trip to those two snorkelling islands.

Day-to-day amenities. Nearest large supermarket: Tesco Lotus Lamai (10 minutes) or Hua Thanon's small Tops (5 minutes). Nearest A&E: Bangkok Hospital Samui (25 minutes). The Centara Villas Samui anchors the cape with a respectable beach restaurant; the small Hua Thanon fish market on the way north is one of the most authentic on the island and worth a morning visit.

For owners. Laem Set is small-volume, end-of-road and quiet by design. ADR for a well-presented 3-bed villa here runs 15,000–28,000 THB/night in peak. Plot availability is tight along the cape itself but more generous on the slope behind it. The submarket attracts couples and small families who want privacy and clear water rather than walkability — a different rental customer than Chaweng or Bo Phut, and a customer who tends to book longer stays.

The day-boat opportunity. Most concierge teams on Samui send their snorkelling-day guests from Hua Thanon or Thong Krut pier — both are 5–10 minutes from Laem Set. If you stay here, the Koh Tan / Koh Mudsum boat trip is an easy half-day rather than a full expedition. Bring snorkel gear; the coral around Koh Tan is shallow and vivid.
